Health insurance in Ivory Coast

Universal Health Coverage (CMU), established by the law of 24 March 2014, is a mandatory health-risk scheme for everyone residing in Côte d'Ivoire, managed by CNAM. Supplementary private health insurance is offered by licensed companies.

Legal requirement

The CMU is mandatory for all residents. The basic general scheme is contributory (the insured pays 30% of care, CNAM 70%); a non-contributory medical-assistance scheme, state-financed, covers low-income households. The active phase began on 1 October 2024.
